And Then There Was One..

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

Yes I’m all alone in the flat… well not technically. My friend Jen is staying this week and then Daniel moves in so its ok. But Jayno got to Doha safe and well and is coming to terms with the slight cultural change. No doubt she will write something up here soon enough about it all!

Meanwhile, I went upto Newcastle on the weekend with Zula, Heron and Kirsty. Kirst ended up going to Edinburgh instead as her Nan has been a bit unwell, so just the three of us went to Newcastle. On fri night we sampled the flavours of the friday nightlife in a uni town. Now this whole experience is so new to me as we don’t have the whole uni town thing back home, but its’ pretty interesting. Everyone who goes to university here pretty much moves as far away from home as possible and they all live in flats and stuff. And there is another slight difference in that Northerners wear next to nothing and it’s bloody freezing!! I’m talking short short SHORT skirts and teeny tiny heels and tops. Big girls, small girls and all thats in between wearing next to nothing in what felt like below 0 temperatures!!

So we drank up the scene and then stayed at a friend of heron’s place. The next morning we picked up our rental car and drove to Durham where Heron went to uni and near her family home. Durham is sooo pretty. Kind of like a York or an Oxford. Old buildings, catherdrals and Castles and small cobblestone streets. And because the trees are all changing their colours, it was pretty magical. The gold, orange and red leaves mixed with the purple hues of the stark leafless trees is pretty sensational!

Sat night we went to see the Scissor Sisters which was possible one of the best concerts I have ever been to and if they are coming your way I would highly advise you go see them. They work the crown, perform better than Robbie Williams and are simply more outrageous than anything else. So all in all, a good night.

Sunday was spent sleeping in at Heron’s family home which is a pretty magical thing in itself – Her mum bought a small miners terrace 20 odd years ago and did it up, and has since bought the next two along, keeping them as seperate self contained houses but with ajoining doors!! Simply amazing!!

We went for a walk in the moors and there was ice and snow up on the tops and i can vouch for the crispness of it all. It was chilly!!

With a mad dash at the end of the night Zu and I ended up getting on the train and meeting up with Kirst but Heron and her sister missed it but got home safely.

The flat was a lonely place on Sunday night but I have to say that I was glad to not have been there as Jayno zipped up her last suitcase. I’m just pretending she is on a little holiday!

And anyway, there is lots going on at the moment so am hopefully going to be kept busy busy.

Oh another recommendation – I went and saw Avenue Q with Russ last week and it was EXCELLENT. It’s a bit like Sesame Street meets South Park. A social satire and just really entertaining. So if you in London, go see it!!

OK hope all is well where ever you are!!

PHEW!!!!

Monday, November 13th, 2006

For thos of you who have logged on in the last few days you will have noticed that ashthomas.net went MIA!!! But she is back on and because i got the shock of my life thinking all my enteries from the last two years had disappeared into the ethos I have a new found motivation to make sure i post at least once a week! So bring it on!!

Right, this week see’s the Villa de Vauxhall lose one of it’s tenants. Jayne is off to the middle east where she will be unable to eat Pork, drink beer or have her shoulders or knees out – NO IDEA WHY SHE’S GOING… something about experience of a life time and sand dune biking… pffffffffffffffff why would you pass up the frosty season in London for surf and sand i just don’t understand…

So our little urban family has dwindled down to ONE!! However, we are adopting a boy into the family, Daniel, who will be moving in on the 24th i think.

Right, not a lot else to report really. Had a good weekend with dinner on friday night for Jayno’s birthday and then saturday night went to Keira’s new pad and had a few wines and catchups and on Sat i went and met Emma, Dewy, Allira, Sam and her sister Ashleigh at Spitelfields markets and then home to cook Jayno a Roast Pork dinner!! Are ya achin’? For some bacon??

Right, back to work

Poker, Promotions and Pain

Why hello,

I’m not even entirely sure if anyone even reads this anymore, but I have only myself to blame! I have been slack in my enteries and will try to get back into the habit again..

So while the last posting was put up this week, it was actually from ages ago and since then a lot has happened. Well, tobe frank, this week alot has happened!

The last few weekends have been awesome, it’s defineitly getting colder but it’s a nice change and it has yet to start with the rain. At the moment we have clear blye skies, big warm sunshine and crisp air. It’s very much getting into winter. The lights are going up on Oxford street, its dark when i get up, when i go to bed and pretty much by 4pm it’s about as dark as its going to get which makes for a very odd day! Especially when you sit in the office all day, but thus is life.

Jayne has been offered a job in Doha, Qatar and is leaving me in two weeks to go and work for 10 weeks. Laura and Dana are about to start their final journey home via Africa and we had their farewell last week and they are staying with us this weekend to finish their London time just the way they started it.

So things are changing. There is definitely a shift happening. I have a boy moving into the flat, Daniel which will be very odd! But he’s lovely so thats good and apparently can cook!! Hoorah!

As for my boy? Well he isn’t mine any more and it makes me sad. Especially with all the other changes, but I’m a girl who believes in the cliches and what doesnt kill me will only make me stronger… (I hope!!) It’s been a tricky adjustment considering how much time we were spending together and now it feels like a gap has formed, so need to get back into single mode ( which, to be fair, i’m a dab hand at really). And to complete the change, I have been promoted to Events Executive and it’s all very excitied.

Russ and I have an opportunity to build an events empire. We pretty much have free reign of what direction we want to take the events stuff for Geronimo and will be sitting down to formulate a business plan next week. We had a killer awards night for 650 people on Monday which proved very successful and also how well he and I work together.

And thats all pretty much happened in the last 7 days!! Along with poker with the girls, playing cupid (rather successfully) and pulling myself together most days. So it’s been a biggy.

This weekend is all about fireworks, farewells and housewarmings! Keira is on her way back as we speak, Lau and Dan are moving in tomorrow and it’s Guy Fawkes night and we are having fireworks on the common with mulled wine and mince pies. So i guess its not all bad.

Would love to hear from anyone who’s still reading, so drop me a line or put a message up.
