Yes I’m all alone in the flat… well not technically. My friend Jen is staying this week and then Daniel moves in so its ok. But Jayno got to Doha safe and well and is coming to terms with the slight cultural change. No doubt she will write something up here soon enough about it all!
Meanwhile, I went upto Newcastle on the weekend with Zula, Heron and Kirsty. Kirst ended up going to Edinburgh instead as her Nan has been a bit unwell, so just the three of us went to Newcastle. On fri night we sampled the flavours of the friday nightlife in a uni town. Now this whole experience is so new to me as we don’t have the whole uni town thing back home, but its’ pretty interesting. Everyone who goes to university here pretty much moves as far away from home as possible and they all live in flats and stuff. And there is another slight difference in that Northerners wear next to nothing and it’s bloody freezing!! I’m talking short short SHORT skirts and teeny tiny heels and tops. Big girls, small girls and all thats in between wearing next to nothing in what felt like below 0 temperatures!!
So we drank up the scene and then stayed at a friend of heron’s place. The next morning we picked up our rental car and drove to Durham where Heron went to uni and near her family home. Durham is sooo pretty. Kind of like a York or an Oxford. Old buildings, catherdrals and Castles and small cobblestone streets. And because the trees are all changing their colours, it was pretty magical. The gold, orange and red leaves mixed with the purple hues of the stark leafless trees is pretty sensational!
Sat night we went to see the Scissor Sisters which was possible one of the best concerts I have ever been to and if they are coming your way I would highly advise you go see them. They work the crown, perform better than Robbie Williams and are simply more outrageous than anything else. So all in all, a good night.
Sunday was spent sleeping in at Heron’s family home which is a pretty magical thing in itself – Her mum bought a small miners terrace 20 odd years ago and did it up, and has since bought the next two along, keeping them as seperate self contained houses but with ajoining doors!! Simply amazing!!
We went for a walk in the moors and there was ice and snow up on the tops and i can vouch for the crispness of it all. It was chilly!!
With a mad dash at the end of the night Zu and I ended up getting on the train and meeting up with Kirst but Heron and her sister missed it but got home safely.
The flat was a lonely place on Sunday night but I have to say that I was glad to not have been there as Jayno zipped up her last suitcase. I’m just pretending she is on a little holiday!
And anyway, there is lots going on at the moment so am hopefully going to be kept busy busy.
Oh another recommendation – I went and saw Avenue Q with Russ last week and it was EXCELLENT. It’s a bit like Sesame Street meets South Park. A social satire and just really entertaining. So if you in London, go see it!!
OK hope all is well where ever you are!!
