The Spirit of Australia

Monday, August 21st, 2006

It’s been almost a year since I was here last and it feels both like it was yesterday and like it was a year ago… time’s a fickle character..

The flight was long, smelly and dehyradting. Or, perhaps that was just me after the boozey night before for wee Kirst’s 23rd birthday bash… Needless to say the hour long wait was hideous on Thursday morning, but not nearly as fun as the random security check i was pulled out of the que for! Not sure if it was the pale skin, sweats and tendancy to have to sit down that made me look suspect or if she just thought it might be fun to pick on the single traveller.. either way, i was lucky enough NOT to have the full body search and settled for the full body x-ray ( much more pleasant!).

With no moisturiser, lip gloss or cleanser on board, there were some seriously parched people getting off at Singapore. I thanked my lucky stars I wasn’t the red raw sunburnt Brit that wasn’t allowed moisturiser for 12 hours.. Bet she will never go out in the sun without spf30!

Half an hour in Singapore took me straight to the shop were i stocked up on all things moisture and then got back on for the small leg of the journey and was blissfully exstatic to find i was sat on an isle of the middle row with no one next to me. I spread out, relaxed and slept for 4 whole hours. Bliss.

Mum met me at the airport and we went back to her’s. Dad, Dane and Amelia came over for catch ups as i hadn’t seen Dane or Dad since last Oct, so it was really nice.

Saturday was spent buying last minute neccessities for the wedding, party feet, party heels, hollywood tape, bobby pins… honestly, it costs alot to look good!

Got home, rested up and then started to get ready. The dress was great and looked fab (even if i do say so myself) and we hit the wedding at about 4:30. It was at Gunners Barricks near Mosman and if the family wanted to make sure I knew what i was missing in London, then this was one way of doing it. The view from the barricks was truely sensational. Sydney really is spectacular. The harbour glistened in the afternoon winter sun and as the sun set over the city skyline, i have to say, it made me wonder…

Nic and Rich had an amazing ceremony. Both looked beautiful as did Caryn. Walking down the aisle to Jose Gonzalez’s colourful bouncy ball advert song i can categorically say there wasnt a dry eye in the courtyard.

After the “I do’s” the party started. Canapes on the deck overlooking the afore mentioned view while the bridal party got snaps. It was a great chance to catch up with most of the extended family and was a fabulous way to start the holiday. Really made me realise what a lovely family we have and how nice it is that we are all so close.

Then on to speeches and mains and then music and canapes fir dessert.. many champagne’s later it was time to call it a night.

Sunday we had a lazy morning and then had Mum’s sister and her husband over for lunch which was great. I dropped Grandma home and went to visit the girls at Sara’s place which was a bit spontaneous and really worth it.

Last night i hit the wall and crashed at about 10pm. Haven’t done alot today, just kind of re-grouping. Its been a hectic couple of days and bound to be no different the next few.. so needed to recharge the batteries and what better way then watching movies!!

Had lunch with Carla and have no settled in for the evening again… tell you what, this holiday is just what the doctor ordered.

Hoping to catch up with everyone over the next two weeks… I’ll be having birthday drinks on the 2nd Sept so if you can’t catch up before then, watch this space for details!

Hope all is good back in London… and don’t worry – as great as it is to be back here, you can’t get rid of me that easy!

Months Gone By

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

God, a whole month has gone by since i last posted! Apologies… i blame the summer festivities.

It’s been an awesome last few weeks – Lovebox festival, road trip to Kent, days spent at bbq’s and at the seaside and just general goodness. No complaints from this side of the world..

And don’t know if you are aware but I will be visting the “flip side” next week!! AHHHH! I can’t believe its been almost a year since I was last there and for very very different reasons. It’s my cousin Nicole’s wedding and i can’t wait to go to see the whole extended fam in one big hit! Should be an awesome day!

I will also be in Sydney for my 24th Birthday = details to follow but am thinking a big of a drinking session in town somewhere… not up to date with thats cool anymore, so suggestions are welcome!

I would love to see everyone at some point, so let me know plans and I will come along! I plan on being quite the social butterfly!

Well, i think my next posting will probably be a stop over in Singapore!!

Merlaaaaaa my love, can’t believe i am going to miss seeing you. It’s just not fair!!
