The Mini Break Month

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

Hi!

Well this summer has turned out to be the mini break month! Every weekend i have had some adventure to go on which is excellent.

To catch you up – the weekend before last Kirsty and I took Zula on her mystery roadtrip away for her Birthday. We bundled her to the car hire place where we managed to land ourselves a free upgrade and a cd for the trip from our super friendly and amazingly camp avis customer service man Donald! We hit the road and were out of London in an hour.

Every time Zu saw a sign pointing out an exciting location she creamed out wondering if that’s where we were taking her and then finally, when we came across the signs to where we were going – NOTHING! argh!

But once she found out it was all excitement plus! ALTON TOWERS – where the magic never ends!

Its a theme park with loads of really awesome rides – put the Demon to shame!!!!!

We stayed at a friends family’s pub which was beautiful – the Lord Shresbury or the Shrew to the locals whom we befriended over a few (thousand) drinks on the Friday evening. The with groggy heads but a belly full of engilsh breakfast we set off to alton towers.

We giggled, laughed and acted like 8 yr olds for most of the day. The rides were awesome and the pictures even funnier. Def recommend it to anyone who is over here if you havent been!

On sat night the Alton massive called us up and after a lovely three course meal at the Shrew, our new friends acame and met us and again a few drinks were had – but hey! it’s what you do in the summer ( and the winter, autumn and spring!!).

Sunday we drove up to Chatworth House which is absolutly beautiful. It was used in the new Pride and Prejudice and the gardens are amazing – check it out http://www.chatsworth.org/. I will put our pics up soon.

Four hours in the traffic and i missed the aussie match and was far to exhuasted to stay up to watch the replay at 11… but sympathy and awe to those of you who are adjusting to european time to watch the games!

The last week has been busy busy. Sarah (sherbs) came over on Thursday last week and i took the thursday and friday off and we caught up with Alex ” Dimitri” Miller on Sat in Notting Hill, then a nice little dinner locally on sat night, primark shopping on sunday followed by a bbq at Russ’s to watch the England match and drink champagne.

Then we went to Liverpool street to meet up with Michelle Gorzanelli and Jules Lo Presti for drinks and dinner before they jet off on a few weeks around Europe! It was so unbelieveably nice to see them both.

So tonight Sarah and I are off to see Les Miserables!! Both very excitied about it and can’t wait to really hear the people sing (pause for laughter).

This weekend we are off to Brighton for a nice seaside visit. Then Sherbs leaves on the wednesday.

So it’s all going good over here. Weather could always be better but its meant to be hot this weekend! woohoo TAN!!

love to you all

xx

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie – OI, OI, OI!!!

Tuesday, June 13th, 2006

Well Done to the Socceroos on their first GREAT game of the World Cup!!!! In the words of Peter Thomas ” You little rip snorters!!”

So not only are we doing well in the football/soccer ( have to please everyone) but did anyone see the England vs Aus rugby?? Taught them a lesson or two!

Basically, it is sport crazy over here. It’s scortching hot – 32 degrees – and has been all weekend. Jayno, Lau, Dana and myself hit the orad to southampton on friday arvo and got to the stadium about 5:30ish to anticpate Bon Jovi. They had a local band supporting and also Nickleback which was pretty cool. Didn’t know a whole lot of their stuff but the ones we did know we belted out!

The crowd were a mixed bunch,…. to be honest, i felt pretty damn hot compared to some of the interesting fans BJ have gained over the years. A very cross breed of people of all ages and all walks ( or stumbles) of life.

Bon Jovi came on just as the sun was setting and the full moon was rising up. While Jayne, already a convert, sang along and drooled over Jon in his leather trousers and 80’s stonewash denim jacket, Laura, Dana and myself realised just what she has been going on about all this time. Jon Bon Jovi is SEXY!!!!!!!!

Yes, his hair is big and fluffy, and he does have a tendency to dress like he is stuck in a time warp, but man o man does that man have some mooves and a voice better than any recording could do justice to. So all of you, get to it and buy the new album. It’s great!!

The concert finished about 10:30 and we walked back into the main town and found ourselves in a little chinese restaurant that stayed open til 2am! Just what we wanted! We ate enough food to feed a large family and then giggled our way back to the hotel where we all conked out – me on the crappest bed, but because i was tired and couldn’t cope with the conflict i volunteered myself. Thankfully i crashed out asleep before the others were even in bed!

Saturday was another blissfully warm and sunny day so we hit the beach!! Bournemouth is a sandy beach so we haul arsed there through the New Forest and through the OLD TRAFFIC of everyone going to watch the England vs Paraguay match.

We avoided the crowds and found ourselves at a little beach where we sat, reading maghs and soaking in the much awaited vitamin d for about 5 hours.. don’t worry  mum, i had the spf 50 on and i don’t event think i have any new freckles!!

We drove home and got back into London about 10ish and all feel asleep after such a nice time out for London.

Sunday Jayno the travelling flat mate, left me again to see Sue and Paul in Malta. So home to myself again, i cleaned the place from top to bottom, had a little nap in the sun shine in the back yard and then went and met Lau and Dana and some of their friends on the common. Waited for Kirst to  get back from work (on a sunday!!!) and then we went to Kat’s place for drinks and debreifing and then to Kirsts for dinner in the garden!

All very nice and possibly the first weekend in goodness knows how long where i didn’t wake up with a hangover!!! Yay for me!

Today its beautiful, if not a little too hot ( dare i say it?). Just sat in the park and soaked up some more UV rays and it’s just SO nice. Although, still adjusting to not being able to go to daruke after work for a nice little swim…

ok well thats me.

This weekend Kirsty and I are taking Zula on a mystery road trip for her birthday! oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh

There will be pics and goss on Monday!

Visit London

Friday, June 9th, 2006

It’s a rare occurance for me to write up two messages in one week – but i just need to get this off my chest.

I LOVE LONDON.

Not only do i wake up to beautiful sunshine at the moment, in my fabulous flat with its fabulous back yard with my fabulous flat mate but then I get to catch the 87 bus across vauxhall bridge and catch the morning glimpse of the battersea power station that has stolen my heart, then up to Parliment Square and Westminster Abby up to Trafalgar Square where i get off and walk through Leciester Square and Soho up to Oxford street and into work.

And to top it off, last night i went to a event networking function on the 9th floor of the new City Hall which looks out on Tower of London and London Bridge and i stood on the balcony of Ken LIvingston’s “living room” and watched a sunny day turn into a spectacular night. The night was run by www.visitlondon.com and there was a presentation on the up and coming events in london in the next 10 years. If there was any doubt as to what i want to do and where i want to be, it has been completely shut down. London is going to be one of the most exciting places and I can not wait to be involved in it!!!

So, thought i would share that with you all! Come over and play in London with me because, frankly, things can only get better.

xx

Living On A Prayer

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

Yes it is one and a half days til Jayno, Lau, Dana and myself ROCK OUT to Bon Jovi at Southampton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The weather is finally STUNNING. Last weekend brought in the sunshine and everyone is relishing it. I had a quiet fri night and then on Saturday mooched about the flat then went to Clapham with Jayno and then met Kirst and her flat mates Chloe on Clapham Common for some serious sun action. I am still not entirely used to the concept of laying in the sun and getting really hot and not being able to go and jump in the ocean to cool off and re-start the process but hey, i’m happy to take what i can get!

Sat night Kirsty and I went to her friends place for some drinks and a bbq in Camden before heading out to meet Russ and his mates for some clubbing action. We went to a place called KOKO’s which is the old Camden Palace. It’s like an old theatre with stalls and everything. We danced the night away and even scored some bottles of Verve which we unclassily drank from the bottle!!

The night went very very quickly and before we knew it we were walking outside to birds chirping and the sun well and truely up!! Not the best feeling in the world but worth it for a good night!

Kirst and I made it back to our flats on the 88 bus, going through a very empty London town which reminded me a little of 28 Days Later but have since pushed that thought of of my head!

Got home and napped til 11 and then did nothing all day. Sat outside in the backyard(!) and soaked in a bit more sunshine.

I tell you what, it’s hard to believe the sunlight can make THAT much of a difference but I swear to you that it does. London is a different place!

I walked through regents park and primrose hill with Caryn and Max on tuesday night and everyone is out and about. It doesn’t get dark til well after 10 and the days are so much better for it.

Last night, Kirst, Polly, Luke and myself went to our new little local which happens to be a little boat on the Thames tied up to the Albert Embankment. We chilled out with wine as the sun went down and then they came back to mine and i whipped up a gourmet nachos for us to munch on!

OHH I just had a call from Keira who has landed in London and is coming to meet me for lunch!!YAY!!

So all is good – Southampton here we come for a glorious weekend away!
