Tour Guide Extraordinaire

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

It is a rae incident that I boast my skills to you dear Readers, but after yesterdays excursion i felt it necessary to share.

It was the first warm day since last July, the sun was out, the birds were singing and we were all out of bed before midday – everything was working in our favour. I decided to take my new arrivals on a London walking tour, to see the sights AND orientate themselves before i was back to work today!

We started at Covent Garden, walked down to Leicester Square, over to Piccadilly Circus, down to Trafalgar Square, on to Buckingham Palace, back through St James park, down to Westminster Abbey and Big Ben, over the river to the Eye and back over to Covent Garden… we saw everything!!! It was really good and made me remember why I was over here again!

To go backwards a bit – Thursday was my first of the super long weekend off and i was up at the crack of dawn to trek down to Heathrow for Em and Dewey’s flight to come in at 8:30…. two trashy mags, four cups of coffee and three hours later, they arrived!!!

Home we went for catch ups and snoozes, then off to the shops for Ash’s roast dinner! All curtesy of M&S ( that’s not just roast chicken….). A few bottles of wine and some serious tales told we all passed out!!

A super sleep in til about 10:30 on friday and then got ready and went down to O’Neils pub right in town to celebrate St Paddy’s day! We got there about one and some of the people from work were there and then other kids from newsquest turned up and we all basically got right into the swing of things!

Moved on for some grub a bit later on and then onto another pub to meet Geronimo kids, but by that time someone, not mentioning any names (coughdeweycough), was a little excitied about the festivities and we had to go home! All tucked in by 9pm!

Saturday we had another laxy morning and then watched the rugby at home, then moved to the pub, then back home for crozzles, scrabble and just general hangingoutness… which was nice and to be fair, cheap!

and then it was sunday, which we have already covered!!!

So this week there are a few social engagements, dinner party at Kirst’s on Thursday night, Farewell do on friday night, house party on sat night! all Fun things!!

Hope all is good on the flip.

Still Really Cold…

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

Yes, i blame the weather for my lack of correspondence.

The freezing february weather has marched well into March and while it should be Spring, there is still no sign of it getting any warmer… If anything, it’s gotten colder!!

Hopefully Emma and Dewy will bring some sunshine with them. And speaking of the travelling two, the arrive tomorrow! Hoorah!!

With Jayne back home, I have felt somewhat adrift these last few days. No one to go home and bitch and moan to, but it’s all over tomorrow!! We will tightly squish into Chateau de Caledonia for a week or so and then we will move into the new place and they can come and stay for a bit til they are on their feet!

Not much else to report – had a quiet weekend watching the rubgy and having dinner with Kirsty, her dad, Zula and the girl on the block, Lucy. It was good company and good food! Can’t complain.

However i have been struck down with a trans-seasonal cold that just doesn’t want to relinquish its hold on me. But on day three of the cold and flu tabs so should be right as rain before i know it.

A big happy birthday shout out to Grammy T who turned 91 on Monday! 91!!!!!

Right, well, next time i type I will have gossip of Em and Dew’s first weekend in London – and boy do i have a lot planned!! WOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Kidaulthood

Saturday, March 4th, 2006

Just a quick one – bit of a film review actually.

Last night Kirsty, Luke and I got passes to a film premiere for Kidulthood – a film based in London and around 15 yr old kids. It’s really controversial and really confrontational. It brings up all sorts of stereotypes and issues that kids deal with in inner london and how it can be a really serious and dangerous world.

The writer is a 25 yr old guy who also stars in the movie and after the show we had Q & A with him and four of the other cast members. It was such an insight into a world that you know is there but are kind of afraid to admit it.

It is really raw and real and while it has a 15 rating over here, there were bits where Kirst and I couldnt look.

But if it hits Aussie shores, I highly recommend it as it is worth seeing. And it’s also an example of young talent because the kids in it are so believable and honest that it feels like a documentary and not a movie. But go and see it.

In other news, some of you already know, but it looks like Jayno and I will be the residents of a fabulous victorian converted flat in Vauxhall. Both so excitied, just tripping up on some stupid red tape but should all be sorted soon. And the move in date is 8th April – I’ll have Em and Dew to help me out!!!

Hope all is good on the flip side
