Sink Or Swim?

Wednesday, September 28th, 2005

Hello Readers,
Well its been a rollercoaster of a week, to say the least.
My week and Hamleys was something i would associate with torture, entering thousands of peoples addresses into an excel spreadsheet….not my idea of fun at all!!
The weekend was really good. Friday night was spent watching a pretty bad dvd and eating some pretty good thai… nice and relaxing. Saturday was a hectic day, meeting up with people and eventually getting back down to the old house in Acton for a goodbye party as the house was being demolished!!
So that was really good, then off to a farewell do for Jen who we met on our travels and then into the West End to meet up with Jon, Katy and Helen to watch Liam play in his band. Very cool indeed. We all kicked on at the pub til close, then off to another little bar for cocktails and then onto a nightclub/bar/restaurant for food and wine – i know you can all feel the hangover…i know i did.
Sunday i woke up to the sound of my mobile going off, i ignored the headache and answered it to hear the news that Pa is in Calvary Hospital.
As you can imagine i was a bit of a wreck… Jon made me vegemite on toast and a cup of tea ( a mixture of English and Aussie traditions of making a bad situation better) but i was a very miserable sight.
Pulled myself together and went to met Carla and Amber which was really just what the doctor ordered. We met in Covent Garden and within 5 seconds it felt like the last 10 months just disappeared!!
Amber came back to the flat and we had wine (ok Carla had wine) and a cheese platter, as you would all expect no doubt!!

Monday I was back at Hamleys, due to be starting at Geronimo on Wednesday but they called and asked if i could start today – So i did!!

All seems to be going well, but talk about the deep end!! Lucky I have that fabulous TableEight Corporate experience of treading water!

Well i’m off to chill out at home, have a glass of red and watch yet another DVD of The OC. “California, here we come!”

Hope you are all well
Grandma and Pa – my thoughts are with you both and i am sending Cosmic Hugs by the second. I love you both so much.

Teddy Bears Picnic

Wednesday, September 21st, 2005

I am currently doing some temp work for Hamleys of London – the biggest and apparently best toyshop in the world!! (have they been to FAO Schwartz?) I am doing some very exciting and entertaining data entry for the Bear Factory. My desk is covered in all sorts of different teddy bears! awwww sweet!!

Hey and to emphasis my poll question…Carla just text me to say that she bumped into Shaun Holt on a beach on Lagos in Portugal…small small world!!

Right, back is slowly breaking. Have to go home and sleep
Take care

Dave – did you get my text??

Geronimo!!

Monday, September 19th, 2005

Yes that’s right, I am now the newest employee of Geronimo Communications!!
Hoorah!!!
Had the final interview on Friday – was nervous as hell because if i didn’t get it i would have been mortally depressed. Dressed up all funky like – whereas had worn suits the last two times – had a chat to the big boss, and the head of their finace department because i will be doing some work for him. He turned out to be an aussie, and the first thing he asked me was how was i feeling after last Monday… from that point on i knew it was in the bag!
An hour later i was home biting my nails and munching through the numerous bags of crisps and sweets that had also arrived from Em and the girls when the phone rang and I was offered a 12 month contract with them!! YAY!!!!!!
I don’t start til next week which is a bit annoying, but hey, then i will be safe in the arms of a secure job and income!
So while i should have been celebrating with all my friends about the job, i actually sat at home with a bottle of vino and some jatz and watched cheesy american sitcoms all night – bit home sick, and just wished i could have popped home for the weekend. Everyone was away!! Carla and Jayno are in Portugal and i keep getting texts saying how lovely it is there, Merle was out, Jon had gone to see his sister in Hereford, The girls i went travelling with had gone to Cornwall… It was the first time i had been in the flat by myself since we moved in. Very strange feeling.
Saturday i was wallowing in self pity a bit but was shaken out of it by Katy. I went round to her place and then met up wtih Pat and Nigel (all from Newsquest) and we walked from Mile End to Canary Wharf…all along the canals. A great walk, and it was a beautiful day for it. Canary Wharfs is kind of a new city in the south east of London, a bit of a cement jungle but nice to see and lots of nice places to eat and drink on the canals. We did the grocery shopping and picked up all the stuff for a big baked dinner!
Walked all the way back to Pat and Nigel’s place and they cooked us a great roast dinner with all the trimmings and we watched a dvd and just chilled. very nice day and night.
Got home on Sunday in time for our semi perm house guests Laura and Dana to arrive!!
Caught up with them and then went to Jon’s and watched The Interpreter.

That brings us to today – i might have some work with insurance times again but not sure. Will find out today.
Hope all is well with everyone.

Dad – thanks for the text, running low on credit so didn’t text back but start next week!!
Dave – the dragon tune is so last season…

Alright, Take care everyonexxx

Hey Team,
So I am currently putting up the rest of the SOFAM pictures, basically because we all had cameras there is bound to be some double ups, but I don’ think i could go through all of them and delete the doubles. So you’ll just have to cope ok?

Hope all is well on the flip side.
Autumn has definitly started here in London. It was rather cool last night and this morning, and its getting darker earlier… I really need this job just so i can start buying the winter fashions!!

Right well, not much else to report.
love you!!

Dust To Dust..

Tuesday, September 13th, 2005

Well, right now I tink there are many Aussies who’s English accents just picked up a notch! We are all hanging our heads in shame as the English team parade down Cannon St with the Ashes. Yes, it is the first time since 1986 and they are a tad bit excitied, to say the least!!

So, my week last week was pretty boring and a bit depressing as the job quest is still continuing. I have a third and final interview with this PR company on Friday and i will definitly find out if i get the job or not. Fingers crossed!!
The weekend was much better though!
Friday night Carla, Merle, Merle’s friend Marjet, Tom Cutler, Carla’s friend Tim from work, Kara and her flat mate Jo all came out to a bar called Loop in Oxford Circus..it was a mottled bunch but lots of fun. Jon and his mate Lee came down and met us out also and we boogied the night away!!
Jon and I left Loop and went to Ronnie Scotts. A really cool jazz bar, dark red interior, dull lights and great atmosphere. We listened to crooning musicians and a wicked guitarist til the wee hours of the morning.. lovely!!
Saturday we went to Regents Park where they were showing the cricket on a big screen, so armed with a few beers, blanket and the papers we sat around and watched the cricket. It rained on and off all day but was a lot of fun and at that stage we were still in the game!!
Played some of our own cricket, and if it wasn’t freezing cold and grey, we could have been out the front of Booey’s house on Boxing Day!! ahh love it! It was getting late and i called bad light ( bit of cricket humour there..) so we went to a pub round the corner and i bumped into Brad Heckendorf!! Of all the gin joints!! ha! was good to see him and had a quick catch up..so crazy!! small world!!
We played cards and drank away the night! We were trying to capture that holiday feeling, but i think we kinda missed it just a little bit!!

Sunday was spent at Brick Lane eating Curry ( Brick Lane is the Indian Hub of London) and sussing out the markets with Carla, Merle and Marjet. There were so many people and it was getting a bit claustrophobic for me and Carla so we left!
I went to the movies with Jon and saw Crash which was excellent… really realyl good. I think it might get best picture. I cried and cried!! Top film.

And that brings us back to this week.
Monday i came into this office where I am temping for two days to get the jist of how it all works, and then Merle and I cooked up a STORM of smoked salmon and cream sauce with spaghetti! It really was delicious!! And as we had Carla and Jayne’s aunties staying their last night it was a nice way to finish it off!!
lovely!

So here i am today, receptionist for Neste Oil.
Carla and Jayne are off to Portugal for 10 days on Thursday so it will be just me and Merle in the flat. weird!!

Hope the weather stays nice for the weekend!!

ok over and out
love you!

OK Blue Jays…
