All Quiet On The Home Front..

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

Ummm where is everyone??

I know i have been slack to update, it’s just been a very hectic couple of weeks!!
But as the email is down at the moment, and being a web reporter requires receiveing emails, i have a bit of time!!

So… where to start? Last weekend was busy busy as per. There just doesn’t seem to be spare moments to rest – not that i’m complaining! Thursday night ( yes our weekends pretty much start on Thursdays now) Carla and i went out with the Finners Crew to fare them well on their trip to Egypt and also celebrate Sarah’s birthday. We had planned to go to Jamie Olivers restaurant but apparently they didn’t know who we were and we couldn’t get a table!! So we meandered off and found a great little greek restaurant. I hadn’t seen the crew for quite some time and it was so nice to catch up with them all and see shaun fresh back from Oz.
Friday night Carla met me after work and we went to a bar just near me called Metropolis for a farewell do for one of the reporters on Insurance times. It was a very funny night, and a very drunken one…it all got a little rowdy and after one of the guys ended up splashing Carla with a pint of beer we decided it was time to call it a night – took our unfinished bottle of wine and went home for chinese takeaway and ‘The Notebook’ ( word of advice, never and i mean NEVER watch the Notebook when you have had a drink or two and you have your phone handy….)
So saturday we felt the need to shop off our hangovers…and shop we did!! I took Carla to Oxford Circus – Top Shop, Mango, H & M and dinally Selfridges. Needless to say we spent a fair amount of cash – loving having a shared wardrobe though!! Then we had a lovely lunch with Caryn just near by for a bit of a catch up!
Saturday night Jayne and I mooched about at home over a bottle of wine and some pizza ( yes i know, all i eat is take away at the moment…oops!)Went to bed rather early preparing for a biggish sunday night due to Longweekend.
Sunday, Carla and i went into Covent Garden and met some girls from work for lunch at The Porterhouse which serves great burgers ( although carla and i went for the healthy option of a salad which was pretty ordinary actually) and they also serve beers from around the world. We sample many.
Then off to Notting Hill to meet the girls i’m going away with, then off to Shepherd’s Bush to a pub called belushi’s – just another pub filled with aussies, kiwi’s and saffas…Obie, Greg and Bri where there already and we spent the rest of the night dancing to the same tracks over and again. But all in good fun – there is some photographic evidence but i’m not sure i should put them up!!
Monday morning Jayne, Carla and I regrouped and vegged around the house for a bit..ok who am i kidding, we vegged all day!! It was great!

Today i have started as Web Reporter for the insurance times website – www.insurancetimes.co.uk – it’s deadline day so talk about the deep end, but hey, its the quick way to see if you can sink or swim….thank god i know how to tread water hey!! (hahaha such a geek!!)

I will try and take some photos of our flat – Greg is going back home so we are in the process of finding a new flat mate. So far only one potential keeper, a british guy called Richard. We have another Aussie coming to look today so fingers crossed!

So i think thats it – and just in time – email is up and running again!!

Hobbits – loving the banter!!
Em – sorry i missed you on Sunday night but it was good to speak to Jen!!
Dad – hope the new place is good!! I will email my number today
Mum – update up as requested!!
Sherbs – alive??
Nicole – call this week maybe?
Dave – loved your email matie! I expect more contact from now on – say hi to Rahaul for me!
Chez – booking Dublin this week!!
C’Bah Girls – Carla and I wish you could all be here to experience our shopping pleasure on saturday – makes melbourne look like a flea market!!
Scotti – Are the 2-4-1’s still on? Hope your not too worn out – you might need a holiday…Fiji maybe?

ok signing off

Home Sweet Home

Wednesday, May 18th, 2005

ok, I have restored most of my brain power and energy in order to re-type my mammoth entry from yesterday – so here goes.
My weekend really started on Wednesday, as this was the first night out with Jayne and Carla. They both met me at work and then we went to a funky bar called APT for some bevvies and catch ups. I had bought tickets to this themed night at a bar in at Piccadilly – Seven Deadly Sins Evening. So off we went. The club – Tiger Tiger was divided up into rooms that each had something to do with a sin. Interesting concept, not sure they really pulled it off, but there was definitly a good turn out. Lots of suits.
Thursday night, Carla and I just stayed at home and attempted to watch telli, but because it’s so bad over here, we talked instead…and gosh did we have lots to say!! 4 months worth of talk!!
Friday started Carla and My first weekend in London together – so we thought we shoul definitly have some good old fashion fun – namely eating and drinking! It is what we both do best!
So Carla met me at work for some drinks at the Pitcher and Piano with some work friends – one of the guys here is in a band and was playing at another pub later in the evening, so to kill the time we just went to the local for a few drinks. We caught a taxi to the pub in Piccadilly and settled in for some live musak!
The band was great, the drinks were yummy and the company was fun – however, our bellies started a-rummbling and so off we went in search of all things food.
On our way through an alley way there happened to be a thousand people heading in our direction and blocking the way. We ducked to one side and found ourselves in a line for a night club. Not knowing what the club was and not really wanting to go in, we kindly asked the bouncers if we could simply pass them in order to get to the other end of the alley. They wouldn’t let us! So with Carla taking the lead we began to Limbo under the ropes – bare in mind we had had a few cosmo’s… The bouncers found it hilarious and gave us free entry passes into the club! Stoked!
Inside the club we could hear the distinctive beat of RnB – so we got down and boogied!! I can tell you all now, that we were the whitest people there…Well I was, Carla with her Western American tan blended in alright – but it didn’t stop us! We shook, bounced and shimmied our way to the middle of the dance floor where we were the centre of attentions – for all the wrong reasons!
However, one of the bouncers came up to us and asked us where we were from because ( and i quote) ‘ London girls are so boring’ ! ha!!
After a drink and a chat to some interesting randoms, we went back in search of our food.
We stumbled across the Golden Arches and munched our way through two packs of nuggets and large cokes…mmm i’m lovin’ it!
We had, by this time, missed the last tube home, so with our full bellies we went in search of a bus that went in the right firection. The N207 was NOWHERE to be found, until, of course, we found it!
We jumped on and decided it was time for a little nap.
When we woke up from our slumber, we weren’t entirley sure of our whereabouts. And seeing as I had enevr seen the way home from the city because i’m always on the tube, i really had no idea. But kept quiet and reassured myself that any minute now we would trun into the high st in Acton. We didn’t.
The bus pulled over at what we then realised was the last stop – i asked the driver what he thought he was doing and he snapped back at me saying this was the last stop.I walked away muttering under my brath about how rude he was…
We got off and ran across to the opposite side of the road to catch the bus going back the way we had come and that sneaky driver had done a U turn and was now going in that direction. We jumped on and asked if this was going back to Acton and he simply said “Aren’t you the girl who just called me rude” ( turns out i didn’t say it under my breath at all!!). OOPS!
It transpired that he actually likes aussies because we are so forward ! yesssss!
So anyways, we got home about 4am and couldn’t wait to get into bed. And sleep in!!

Which brings me to Saturday – went and had lunch with Clare Cannon and her boyfriend Tony in Covent Garden and then back home again to clean the place up for someone to come and view it. She didn’t turn up, but the place was spotless!
Carla and I had a quiet night in playing Trivial Pursuit and a few glassess of red vino. It is so good to have someone here who actually laughs at my bad jokes! I have missed it! We laughed alot and it is just so great having Carla here with me!!

Sunday we started packing up, spent most of the day doing that until The OC at 2:35 and then the taxi came to pick Carla and I up and our 5 suitcases and mulitple extra bags and take us to our new home!
We met Reggsie there, signed the lease, and unpacked our things. With no tellie or stereo we had to find something to keep ourselves amused – this was going to the shops to get dinner and some wine to celebrate our first night in our new home!!
Ended up having a bit of a big one and hated the fact that i was the only one getting up for work in the morning…
Last night i showed a girl the room in Acton and she is going to take it. Such a relief for both Jayne and I as we both have money tied up in it. I must say though, i am going to miss the seedy Acton house. Or at least the people in it. I already miss Merle and her crazy German sleep talk!! ( however Carla was mumbling about kicking the heater this morning – no idea!!)

And thats me up to the minute on this Tuesday the 17th may!
Hope everyone else is well!!

Mate – happy 25th for yesterday! You can now officially have your quarter life crisis! Congratulations!
Shabs – the 9 months only takes us up til February – I’ll be home for a holiday in Jan and then decide what i’m going to do. Carla will be here for about 5 months and then finish her adventures. 4 months has passed already, it’ll go so fast!! But i miss you too!!
Scotti – hope the 2-4-1 isn’t killing you!! Tell Danny to give you a break!

ok better go

Home Is Where Your Heart Is

Friday, May 13th, 2005

Well, not sure if that saying is a hundred percent right, but at the moment, it sure feels like it!
We are all so excited about moving in on Sunday – it’s all been a bit overwhleming because it has happened so fast and that we are actually signing a lease…for 9 months. Yes, that’s right. 9 months locked in. Just like that.
A little bit daunting as it is also the first really ‘adult’ thing i have done…I know that sounds a bit lame, but it really is quite scary!

However, can not wait to settle in and finally have a home. Carla and I were sitting around last night and we were so excitied about the propect of living together – it’s one of those things that when we were little we dreamt about doing, and now it’s actually happening. Very Exciting!!

Carla and I will be sharing a room, while Jayne and Reggsie will have their own rooms. It’s the complete opposite end of London to where we are now, and it’s right near some great areas for pubs, clubs and dining. Am looking forward to trying them all out!!
It is also two stops away from the Finners Clan, which will be excellent!!

So the move is on Sunday and so i will email out my address so you can send all those house warming gifts over! ( if anyone has a spare tv lying about – be sure to get that over to us! hahaha)
This weekend is going to be a bit quiet as the funds are awfully low what with the deposit and everything. But i am sure we will still have fun.

And that’s about it from me!

Alexis – Happy Birthday for yesterday!
Chez – Can’t wait for June 17th!!
Em – Bub! I get to work and almost burst into tears over your email!! Will call on sunday night?
Sherbs – where for art thou?
Gordi – Not sure will read this but so good to talk to you – I thought i was hilarious that your extension was the only one i could remember!
Mum and Dad – Thanks so much. It’s a big help.
Nic – how’s the holidaying going?

Ok well another week’s gone by
Tune in next time for stories of the move and the new place!
