Morning Readers!!
OK well i’m at an EasyEverything Cafe where its 24 hours of internet access and subway!! mmmmm As i sit here the smell of freshly baked bread and that unique subway scent permeate the area… I know what i’ll be having for lunch!!

OK so i’m all by myself now!! Well obvisouly not, seeing as i’m still staying at Max and Caryn’s at the moment, but it was kinda strange not having my activity organiser around! Although i had a great night sleep which i think was the only bonus of it all! heh!
Saw mum off at the crack of dawn yesterday. The streets of London put on a show and were covered in a layer of snow. It was so pretty! And so now Mum is somewhere over Australia, or possibly home, and my adventure really starts. The Holiday is really over!!

Went out with Jayne yesterday, saw “Coffe and Cigarettes” at this cheap mopvie place. It was very art house, black and white, but had an all star cast. It’s hard to explain, but it was basically people having coffee with different people. It was ins ections and everything. Very odd but enjoyable!
Then we went to a pub for some thirst quenching beer and snacks. We did some window shopping but enither of us have money to be spending – especially me seeing as i have NO job.
I have applied to a few but heard nothing. Max and caryn have been very helpful and may have some opportunites through people they know. Otherwise its waitressing for the time being. Ewww.
I move into the house in Acton on the 6th and am excitied. It’ll be nice to stop living out of a suitcase!

anyways, not much else to report.
am going up to Birmingham his weekend with C and M and might be going out with Jayne on friday night!
will write up again when i can!

Oh and if anyone would like a very unaffectionate, yet strangely amusing cat, let me know!

Without Further Adieu…

…It is time to say good bye and fare the well to our house in Horsham.
Mum and I have had (another) quiet weekend in Horsham, pulling together all our bits and pieces that we have managed to collect over the past 6 weeks. And let me tell you, there is loads!! We are actually about to go into town to purchase another suitcase for myself. Oops!
We’ll catch the train into London and then tomorrow we are catching up with Jayne and then I’ll see Mum off to the airport on Wednesday morning.
The last six weeks have been excellent. We’ve had loads of fun and seen such a lot of England. It’s been really nice having Mum about and I’m sure both of us will miss each others company. It hasn’t really hit me that I’m actually staying on without Mum, so no doubt this week will be a bit hard. But i guess thats what this is all about!!
OK well Signing Out from Horsham

At Last My Love Has Come Along

Saturday, February 19th, 2005

No readers, I’m not refering to the dashing and charming english lad that is destined to sweep me off my feet, but to that of the wonderful, exhiliarting and simply mesmerising city of LONDON.
I am in love.
I have spent the last week up in London and just have had a GREAT time.
I went back up to Caryn and Max’s after their stay in Horsham. It was Valentines on the monday and while i could have been feeling sorry for myself what with no gifts of love and cherishment, i was instead setting up a bank account and preparing a dinner for three! I cooked dinner for Caryn and Max and that was about as romantic as my night got! heh!
Tuesday i met Mum in London and we wandered the absolutly freezing streets. It was about 0 degrees and so cold that mum had to pop into Marks and Spencers to purchase thermals. It was cold my friends, so cold.
I found a better pair of boots than the pair i had already bought and so decided to snap them up and take the other pair back!! The new ones are much more practical and comfy!
That night we had tickets to a play called “National Anthem” with Kevin Spacey. Now i understand that there are a few big fans of Kevin that may well be reading this, so if you don’t want to read anything negative about him, i suggest you skip to the next paragraph. For those of you who are indifferent, read on. The play had gotten a bit of a bagging in the papers, so we had low expectations. Our seats were great and the theatre was old and charming in only the way old theatres can be ( dusty smells, vintage everything etc etc). The play itself was well, boring. It had a cast of three, one set, and set in REAL time. Basically meaning it was an hour and 45 mins of a couples life who meet their neighbour for the first time.
It was odd and didn’t really go anywhere. There were some funny parts but it was as if someone down the front had held up the “LAUGH” card and the audience obeyed! Kevin was just, well, nothing all that special. All in all, not a great play and nothing to write home about ( ha! and yet i manage!!)
Wednesday we had a very lazy morning and then went into town to see a musical. The new Andrew Lloyd-Webber show called A Woman In White. And it was FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Utterly Mesmerising and entertaining and just great. I loved it. And because we had gotten cheap tix, we didnt realise where that would put us on the seating plan. The Palace Theatre has four levels of seating, our seats, while in the middle, where at the very very very top. The Balcony seating is crammed together with no leg room and you are sitting on 45 degree angle they made me giddy, but it did not dampen my spirits, or mum’s. We both just loved it and if if gets to Sydney, which i am sure it will, go and see it. The music is sure to be as popular as that of Phantom.
Pretty much all cultured out, Thursday we thought we should see some more of London. We got the tube to Embankment and then caught a river “cruise” up the Thames to Greenwich.
It was still damn cold, and the Thames is far from a pleasing site. But the cruise was ok. I had no idea that the city of Greenwich is the G of GMT !! So you learn something everyday! Back to the flat and we went out for dinner with Caryn and Max as it will be the last time Mum sees Caryn as she is off the Dominican Repub. for work. We went to this great hotel in London called St Martin’s Lane Hotel. We had drinks in a very swank bar and then we went through to the restaurant Asia de Cuba. The food is a fusion of the two, as the name suggests. It was excellent. The atmosphere was great, high ceilings and large pilons with either books all the way around them or black and white photosgraphs. The lighting was bare bulbs that hung above each table and the food? well the food was fab.
The idea is that you order to share. So its kind of like a tappas, only bigger servings. We let Caryn and Max do the ordering and we sat back and enjoyed the atmosphere. It was a really lovely night, it’s been so good having Caryn and Max in London.
So now we are back in Horsham for our last weekend.
Am starting to freak out a litle. The holiday is coming to an end and i hasn’t really sunk in that i’m staying.
Considering Mum and I haven’t killed each other ( except with fits of hysteria which seem to be a signature event of the trip) its going to be a little odd not having her about. However, i hope it’ll make me more motivated in finding a job – didn’t hear back from that other one… my “eh it’ll just happen” attitude is probably not the best . So we’ll clean up here and then back into London on monday as its easier to get to heathrow from there.
I’ll probably put some more photos up this weekend. Seeing as this will be the last of free internet and online usage so me updates and emails will be fewer and further between! What will i do??
OK Missing you all loads
OH and Dad sold my car..awwww. I hope the new owner knows what kind of responsibility he has now…the legacy of ASH 2IT is in his hands.

The West End

Afternoon Readers!
Well just back from London after a few days exploring the cultural side of life.
Wednesday morning Mother and I packed our bags and headed into London, grabbed the keys to Caryn and Max’s flat, dropped our things there and went to Leicester Square to see if we could score some cheap last minute tix to Andrew Lloyd Webbers latest show “The Woman in White”, alas we were unable to get any seats for the matinee. Disheartened and losing time, we decided to chew over our options over a massive bowl of pasta. For some reason, Leicester Square has about a hundred little pizza and pasta places, so who are we to deter from the norm?
Full, hydrated and caffinated, we decided to see if we could go to the wednesday night show rather than the matinee, however it too was sold out. I was looking at a few leaflets of shows and saw an advert for “Festen”. It had rave reviews and started at 3pm. It was 2:15 and they had two seats avaliable. “LOCK IT IN EDDY” we cried!! ( And yes, our exclamation was met with a puzzeled and somewhat scared ticket seller). We couldn’t believe our luck! And to add to it, we booked tickets for the following Wednesday Matinee to see The Woman in White. The world was right once again.
We dashed around the corner to the Lyric Theatre and went to find our seats….. 11 from the front, smack bang in the middle! Mum and I were sufficiently chuffed!
The play itself was fantastic. Rather intense and tragic as far as the story line went, but superbly acted. If it ever comes out in Sydney, I recommend you see it. So i won’t spoil it by telling you what it was about, just that it was excellent and worth seeing.
After a stroll up the famous Regent Street ( and a quick purchase of some much needed boots) we went back to the apartment and had a nice night in!
Thursday morning, Mum and I got up and went to the Imperial War Museum. While i wasn’t thrilled about the prospect of looking at guns, planes and WW1 reenactments, i was surprised about TWO things.
ONE – i had actually BEEN to the imperial war museum before ( obviously leaving a massive impact)
TWO- the cafe had simply scrumy food and lovely wine!!
So after a bite to eat Mum and I ventured into the WW1 and WW2 areas. In all honesty it was actually really good. While memories of yelling at 11 year old kids to shuttup and stop running around came flooding back from my HoeBridge year, i actually enjoyed the historic look at the wars. There were interactive parts to it, like sitting in a bunker during the blitzkrieg and walking through the trenches.
It was a bit of a sensory overload and we only completed the first floor, but it is free and perhaps i will go back someday…or maybe not.
We then went down to the Thames where the London Eye is and had a drink overlooking the Big Ben. It was a little frosty but made you feel like you were really in the heart of London! We then went to Covent Garden to look through the markets and stalls and have a much needed ( and earned) coffee. In the little galleries of shops that are in the centre of the main area of Covent garden is a little wine bar that also serves coffee. Mum and i took a seat and were greeted with a group of buskers who were playing fabulour string masterpieces. It was so delightful. I bought their cd. am such a sucker but it was so nice!!
Mum bought some great photographs of Piccadilly Circus that had a Moulin Rouge alla the movie style about them. Black and white and a little bit eerie but very nice indeed.
We met Caryn and Max back on Bond St and then went to their place, went out for dinner and then to “Sideways” a movie that got rave reviews, but just didn’t do them justice.
As some of you well know, there is rarely a movie i dislike, and i was disappointed in this film. It was long, and kinda just didn;t go anywhere. It’s most redeeming point i think was that is was all about wine and wine tasting. And that part of it was rather interesting. All in all, a 5/10. Pretty mediocre.
Today Mum and I had a wander around Primrose Hill, had a cream cheese and salmon bagel in Belsize Park and then came home.
So this weekend Caryn and Max are coming down for saturday night. I think we will go into one of the restaurants in town, which should be nice.
Hope this finds you all well
Oh and you know how i said i was brunette? On closer inspection it would appear that there is a very red hue in my hair ( which is rather odd seeing as i specifically asked for NO RED in my colour). So looks like a DIY kit will have to be on the agenda. Not happy Jan!!
love to you all

Do Blonde’s Have More Fun?

Wednesday, February 9th, 2005

Well Team, I know for one thing, it’s more expensive to be a blonde, so I am back to Brunette and gosh-darn-it I’m going to have just as much fun!
Today was spent in the hair salon at Horsham where i was pre-dyed, rinsed, dyed, washed, straightened and finally cut and styled. And now i am the new British Ash, who now doesn’t have to worry about regrowth issues and thus can save more money to travel the continent… or perhaps shop on Oxford St. Whichever comes first!!

Yesterday leah Hamilton and her mate Shayne came down to Horsham and we took them to Brighton for some Fish and Chips on the “beach” ( using the term ever so loosely) and to show them the odd architecture that Brightonians have endured.
We came back for some sight seeing in Horsham ( which would have been the highlight of their trip so far, no doubt) and then they went back into London.

Going back into London tomorrow to see a show and get my bank details all set up.
Ohh best be off, one of the ladies from the apartment next to us has popped in.
So will check back in on friday
xx
oh and P.S just applied for a job!! argh!! It’s a CS adviser for an Internet Company. Will keep you posted on how that all goes!!
