Home Again, Home Again, Jiggety Jig!

Friday, January 28th, 2005

Hello again!
It’s been a few days since my last posting and thats because Mum and I have been in London for the week.
Despite a few mishaps with hotels and lastminute.com, we’ve had a great time!
We met up with Caryn and Max and stayed at their place, in Primrose Hill, on Tuesday night. Caryn whipped up a great meal for us and we polished off about three bottles of red- in true thomas style of course.

Wednesday Mum and I went our seperate ways and I hit the town and painted it all sorts of colours with Jayne and her mates she met in Greece. So from ice skating at Sommerset House, to a nice lunch at Embankment to a very messy night at Temple Walkabout, we celebrated true Aussie attitude with a thousand other aussies, kiwis, south africans and anyone else that needed an excuse to drink!
There was fosters promotions, kareoke performances and a guest appearance from Peter Andre ( and maybe it’s just me, but when did he become someone that defined aussie-ness?? ). Songs that brought tears to my eyes and allowed me to reminise the good ol’ times at northies ( so what if it was only two weeks ago…) Jayne and I really did the shire proud and drank til we really could not drink any more. After 8 or so hours at the walkabout we left and got ourselves a mean kebab and passed out at her place! It was one of the best Australia days, albeit the oddest.
I did miss the sunny weather and wished i was riding my bike around Lilli Pilli and Caringbah, but I was there in spirit!!
So, thursday was a bit of a write off, but Jayne cooked up a great breakky and we went and met Mum at the hotel in Lancaster Gate and went to Portobello Rd and Notting Hill for some lunch- i was dying for a Big Norm but this country has yet to know the charms of Oporto, so had to settle for some Thai. Then an afternoon nap and a movie at Marble Arch with Caryn and Max, who by the way have simply spoiled us while we were there! We saw Closer, rather intense and “raw” but i recommend seeing it.
Mum and I stayed at the hotel last night and then came home back to Horsham today. I have worked out a way to put my photos up so I will get onto that today or tomorrow, but there will be some up this week! Yay!

I think we will be having a quiet weekend, possibly another visit to the local for a roast on sunday but maybe we will stay off the red’s. Ha! Who am i kidding!!
Ok well hope you all had a safe and fun australia day!
Oh and OC addicts – the new season started this week, so I only have to wait 7 weeks before i can see new ones.. not too bad!! And Sherbs – i got two wrong also!
ok mwah!

Australians, All Let Us Rejoice!! For It Is Australia Day

Tuesday, January 25th, 2005

While I haven’t got alot to report, I thought it patriotic and appropriate to put the words of our anthem up for all of you to ponder.
So sing the words proudly my fellow Aussies, and drink till you can not remember them!!
I know i will be!! woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Australians all let us rejoice
For we are young and free;
We’ve golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea.
Our land abounds in natures’ gifts
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history’s’ page let every stage
Advance Australia Fair.

In joyful strains then let us sing
Advance Australia Fair.

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross
We’ll toil with hearts and hands
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands.
For those who’ve come across the seas
We’ve boundless plains to share;
With courage let us all combine to
Advance Australia Fair.

In joyful strains then let us sing
Advance Australia Fair”.

Have a good one team!!

Wha’ Happen?

Monday, January 24th, 2005

Oh am so annoyed!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had written an extremly witty and intelligent piece for this mornings readers but have pressed a button that made it all disappear! Argh!!
Will give it another shot…

Good Morning Readers!!
While you rise to goodness knows what kind of day, and wipe the sleep out of your eyes to start yet another day, Mother and I arise from an odd slumber.
But I’ll get to that later.

This weekend has been somewhat quiet, Yesterday we went into Horsham and simply re-orientated ourselves, mainly Mum who still has no idea where we live, did the weekly shopping at Sainsbury’s where i got the ingredients for a mean mushroom risotto ( dad you would have been proud) and then came home to read all the papers and have a lazy night in. I stayed up to watched the first three eps of Desperate Housewives. If it hasn’t started at home, i recommend you girls keep an eye out for it, it’s pretty damn good and almost an alternate answer to sex And The City. Ironically enough the backers were Disney! ha! Go figure!!

Today we woke late, and decided to go to our local for a roast dinner! The Boar’s Head is just down the road and it obviously quite popular with the locals. As two elderly ladies we struck of conversation with ( ok e were waiting to steal their seats!! ) let us know that it was a new land lord who seemed to be doing the right thing!
The guy at the bar was Aussie, and it was good to hear a sentence that was all once word “ThanksMate, thad’llbeeightquid” in only a way aussies know how!
We had two massive glasses of red with our Beef roast and by the end of the second glass Mum and i were pretty much trollied. We went back home, retired to our ends of the house ( mum to her room upstairs and me infront of the tellie, where a special on the OC happened to be on. And just between us, Josh Schwartz, the writer, is DAMN cute and funny. Basically Seth is based on him…. mmmmmm).
The day had been absolutly beautiful blue skies that only made it colder here, but while i was watching tellie, i must have dozed off because the next thing i knew, i was in my room and it was 6pm!! ha!
Mum and i have no idea what happened, but are both adament that we were drugged! heh!
No red wine for us tonight!

OK well this week takes us into London for Australia Day which should be fun. While some of you will be fridgeing to fridging I will be ice skating and drinking loads of Tooheys New at the WalkAbout!! Good Times, Good Times!
ok I’m off
til next entry readers!!
mwah!

Clarke Griswold, Eat Your Heart Out

Let me start this entry off by saying that while it is a fabulous thing to have access to a car, all those day trips and what not around England, there is also a dark down side to it…
As some of you well know, i am not a GREAT passenger at the best of times, but i have managed to hold my toungue these last few days as Mum is the only one who can drive the car over here…but today was just, well nauseating. For both of us.
We decided to meet Jayne in Oxford for a bit of catching up and sight seeing. Now seeing as I have been designated navigator ( obviously…) I have taken it upon myself to plan the trips the night before so as to get the best route there. However, this morning i made a slight change of plan, which took forever. And then to make matters worse, i took my eyes off the road for about 30 seconds, and Mum went staright instead of turning onto the M4… this ended in pulling over, reversing back to the exit and doing some very interesting four wheel drivng manoeuvers ( keeo in mind we are in a dinosaur of a Volvo). Thank God we can laugh is all i can say.
And that was only on the way there… the way back is a completly different story. My nerves are still on edge and the finger marks on the dash are still very fresh, so think i will leave it at that for now.

Now that that is out of the way, i can let you all know what we actually have done the last two days.
Yesterday ( Thursday) we went to Guildford which is a really sweet town with a fab high street and good shopping. Spent up an absolute storm at Topshop, topping up my winter wardrobe and work wear… it was a relativly quiet day but nice.
Today- after the driving expeditions- we met up with jayne, which was great to see a friendly face and some other human contact that we could talk to. We got on the tour bus of Oxford and saw most of the sights.Oxford, as I’m sure you all know, is a Uni town. But it has over 5 campuses all over the place and they are all really gorgeous and old.
Probably the most interesting thing about Oxford would be the fact that Lewis Caroll was inspired to write Alice in Wonderland while teaching maths at the universities. Apparently Alice was the dean’s daughter and Lewis just wrote about different adventures she may or may not have had… and here i was thinking the book was written while on a wicked LSD trip… hmph!
We did some window shopping, got another pair of pants at topshop ( obsessed much?) and Mum bought some red shoes ( very Betty ). Had lunch at a nice little cafe and just meandered the cobble stone streets filtering down into alley ways and little lanes.
This weekend i am hoping to see some of the HB people, it would be good to see them all again. And then next week I will be going into London for Australia day where I have taken it upon myself to do the Shire well proud and drink lots and lots…
OK avid readers, best be off, Hollyoakes is on!!
Toodles!!
xx

Road Trippin’

Wednesday, January 19th, 2005

I don’t know about you guys, but i have been having ashthomas.net withdrawals! It’s been two whole days since my last post and the twitch in my eye has gotten increasingly worse until now…
So what have Betty and I been up to I hear you ask?
Well, we went on a bit of a road trip.
Monday, we had to go to Swindon, a cold and miserable place ( oh no, wait.. That would include the WHOLE of england), where Mum had to do some token TableEight work. So while she did the meet and greet thing i wandered around perusing all the shops. This places was no Westfields, let me assure you. I did however find H&M and Topshop, so i was well occupied. Found some great bargains but forgot money so will have to find another, thank god they are everywhere!!
We decided to leave this horrid excuse for a shopping centre and head off to Bath.

For those of you who dont know, Bath is still in its Victorian state and is simply mesmerising. I almost felt there should be a place to park your car outside the town, dress up in some vintage 18th century gown of silk, gussets and whale bone and have a Hugh Grant alla Sense and Sensability escort you into town on a horse and buggy!!
Bath is also the home of the Roman Baths. Rather odd thing to have in a Victorian town but hey! It was pretty cold when we got there so we checked into our hotel, checked out the shopping and what we would have to see the next day and then went back to the hotel for a glass of red and a good book!
I won’t mention Mum’s little “side trip” detour that she took me on…. let’s just say that a Big Volvo and Small One Lane Streets are NOT a good mix for ones nerves.
So tuesday we wandered around the streets looking at the Royal Crescent ( where some of the most expensive houses are and a very grand hotel), then onto the Royal Circle ( fancy name for a nice round about with houses around it ) then we decided to go for a drive to Bristol. It was decidedly bleak and so we turned around and went back to Bath for the 1:55pm session of Vanity Fair, where some of the scenes were set in Bath.. a bit of movie trivia for you all!!
Oh and do go see it, its excellent!!
We had planned to have high tea at the Pump Room which is where Jane Austen has written many of her books as she lived in Bath also for some time whilst writing. ( another bit of trivia!!) But alas, the Pump Room was closed, but perhaps for the best, 18 pounds for a cuppa and a tune and cucumber sandwhich may have been a bit extravagant!!
When then called it a day and headed back to the hotel, but we actually stayed up til 9pm last night…woohoo!! late one!! ha!
Today we drove back and it feels good to be home ( ???)
Desperate Housewives is on tonight and have decided that i LOVE english tellie, Hollyoakes, Emmerdale and Coronation Street are all my faves, oh and of course three month old Neighbours! but hey its all good.

No idea whats planned for the rest of the week, maybe a visit to Hoe Bridge and a catch up with Jayne. Anything is possible!

Hope you are all well
Glad to see the OC Updater is doing a good job.
Am contemplating getting an xbox and getting Mate to send me over a pre -programmed harddrive so i have some decent movies!!
Over and out my friends
